Banker to the Poor

Banker to the Poor is the story of one man dream, which ended up helping thousands across the world. Muhammad Yunus vision “helping people help themselves”. Believing all the people needed was financial help in the form of a small loan and some education on the principal of managing money. He believed the rest would follow and they could do for themselves better than they ever imagined before.

He took his idea and started the Grameen Bank in 1983, which focused on giving micro- loans to people who had no collateral or other financial backing. Grameen Bank, based on the belief that credit is a basic human right, not the privilege of a fortunate few, now provides over 2.5 billion dollars of micro –loans to more than two million families. Most of Grameens clients are women around 94%. The repayment rates are nearly 98%. He used his idea to build a bank that creates an opportunity for everyone.
